What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored in your browser that let websites remember information between visits. The Gold Window uses a small number of cookies for authentication and for understanding how the platform is used. We don’t use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or cross-site tracking of any kind — but when you grant Analytics consent, we do record first-party engagement events to understand which parts of the platform are useful.

Cookies We Use

NamePurposeDurationType
tgw_sessionKeeps you signed in after you confirm your email — created when you request access to Chart Explorer or commentary, and used for your preferences and subscription state. Contains a random token, no personal data.90 daysStrictly necessary
tgw_adminAuthenticates staff for the platform’s internal management interface. Only set for administrators.8 hoursStrictly necessary
tgw_cookie_consentRemembers your cookie choice so we don’t ask on every visit. Also saved to your browser’s local storage as a backup, in case cookie storage is restricted.1 yearStrictly necessary
tgw_engagement_idA random identifier used only if you’ve allowed Analytics, so we can understand usage patterns from your browser over time. Set only after you grant consent, and removed if you decline or later withdraw it.1 yearAnalytics (opt-in)

Your Choices

When you first visit, you’re asked to choose between two categories:

  • Essential— required for the platform to function: staying signed in, and remembering your cookie choice. Can’t be disabled.
  • Analytics— optional. Helps us understand which charts and features are actually useful. Off by default; only takes effect once you turn it on.

If You Decline Analytics

We still record certain usage events — such as which charts are viewed — for aggregate product understanding, even when Analytics is declined. What changes is how: each event is written with a freshly generated random identifier that’s never stored, never reused, and never linked to your session, your subscriber account, or any other event you generate. There’s no persistent thread connecting one declined-consent event to the next. If you allow Analytics instead, we use the tgw_engagement_id cookie above so we can understand usage patterns from the same browser over time.

Signing In

Chart Explorer and commentary subscriptions use an email-based sign-in. Entering your email creates your session immediately, via the tgw_session cookie above — you’re never kept waiting on an email that might be delayed. We also send a confirmation link to the address you provide, both to verify you own it and so you can sign in again from another device later. Clicking that link doesn’t change how you’re signed in on the device you’re already using.

What We Don’t Use

  • No third-party analytics platforms (no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, or similar)
  • No advertising or retargeting cookies
  • No cross-site or fingerprinting-based tracking

Managing Your Choice

Use the Cookie Preferenceslink in the footer of any page to change or withdraw your consent at any time. Clearing your browser’s cookies will also sign you out — you can sign back in with your email whenever you like.
